Granton News (Granton, Clark County, Wis.) 21 Dec 1917
On Friday night
the high school basketball team met the fast Marshfield quintet at Marshfield,
where they lost by the score of 30 to 10. The first part of the game was fast,
both teams playing about equal, Granton making the first basket. Marshfield
outweighed the locals by about forty to fifty pounds to the man, and by rough
playing, ran the score up to 15 to 4 at the end of the first half.
The
last half was fast, but the locals could not break through Marshfield's strong
defense, and the score ended 30 to 10 in favor of Marshfield.
On Saturday
night the boys played the Colby High, where they also lost by a score of 22 to
26. In the first half the local squad had a hard time getting adjusted to the
girls' rules used by the Colby referee. The first half ended in a score of 17 to
4 in Colby's favor. In the last half the locals tightened up and brought the
score up to 22 to 26 in favor of Colby.
Frank Storm was taken to
Marshfield last Monday for an operation. At last report he was getting along
nicely.
The basketball team will go to Hixton next Friday, where they
will meet the fast Hixton five. The team will be badly crippled by the loss of
Frank Storm at forward. It is expected that he will be unable to play the rest
of the season.
Miss Lydia Neinas spent Friday night in Marshfield and
attended the game between Granton and Marshfield.
