Numerous friends of Miss Pearl Baird, about 20 in number, surprised her at home last Thursday evening to participate in enjoying the evening of her 17th birthday. She was presented with some nice presents and a fine congenial time was had.

V.J. Clute is turning out a very neat cement block for the new bank building. He has recently added to his equipment a new engine propelled concrete mixer and is now turning out work in pretty lively style.

Mrs. Geo. Glow of Granton, S.D., is a guest of her sister, Mrs. Otto Meinhardt, who live on the old Warner place.

Saturday evening P.E. Peterson, Andrew McCormick and Fred Oelig went to Chippewa Falls to spend Sunday with F.W. Anderson on a little fishing expedition. They returned Monday with F.W. Shrimpton who met them at Chippewa, having driven his new Overland car through from Nebraska, where he has been visiting with his family.

The German Ladies Society will meet with Mrs. Adolph Schwarze on Friday, May 31.

Mrs. Augelia Thomas came over from Fairchild Saturday and is at the Bowen home.

Dr. Frank H. Kennedy made a trip to Kaukauna and back the last of the week.

Dr. and Mrs. H.R. Schofield went to Minneapolis Saturday for a few days visit.

Miss Bea Ketchpaw left yesterday morning for Minneapolis. Her sister, Mrs. John Memhart, who arrived here last week from Twin Falls, Idaho, accompanied her.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ketchpaw and daughter of Elkhorn, Wis., arrived here last Wednesday for a visit at the B.F. Ketchpaw home.

Mrs. Geo. Jardine of Chicago arrived here Saturday for a few weeks visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Hartson.

John Stanton shipped a car of sheep and one of calves and hogs to Chicago on Tuesday.

A number of steel road drags and culverts have arrived recently for the town of Mead.

Mr. and Mrs. Noyes of Jefferson Co., returned Tuesday to their home after visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Hans Nelson.

Mrs. W.H. Clarke returned to her home at Rice Lake on Tuesday, after spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Nelson. Mr. Clarke is a breeder of Jersey cattle and has a wide reputation as a good stockman.

Louie Roehl and family of Menomonie returned home after visiting at the home of Fred Harnack, south of this city.

Mrs. Aug. Beyer went to Mayville last week, called there by the illness of her sister, Mrs. Herman Schwarze. Oscar Beyer left for that place Tuesday morning, having received word of his aunt's death.
