Bravener, Adelbert (11 Sept 1926-23 June 23, 2013)

Adelbert W. “Del” Bravener, 86, Marshfield, formerly of Greenwood, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 23, 2013, with family members present. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, June 27, at Zion United Methodist, Marshfield. Rev. Mike Carlson will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dicky Bravener, Daniel Richard, Jason Bravener, Luke Bravener, Kevin Bravener and Jonathon Bravener. Visitation will be held at Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, from 4-8 p.m., on Wednesday June 26, and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m., until the time of service.

Adelbert William Bravener was dorn on Sept. 11, 1926, in the town of Fredricka, Bremer County, Iowa, the son of Albert and Alice M. (nee Johnson) Bravener. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Frederika area, graduating from Frederika High School in 1945. after completing high school, Dell was drafted into the U.S. Army on July 7, 1945, and served until his honorable discharge on Dec. 16, 1946. He returned to Waterloo,Iowa, and worked at Rath Meat Packing. On May 31, 1947, Dell married Norma J. Teter at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, in Nashua, Iowa. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997. They lived in Waterloo until 1950, when they moved to Loyal and farmed until retiring in 1994. In addition to farming, Dell worked for ABS Breeders for 42 years, and worked at Thomas Stockyard in Greenwood, which he bought in 1972 and operated until 1978. He was also a semi driver. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Greemwood, and the Greenwood American Legion. Dell had many interests, but especially loved his family and really enjoyed spending time with all of them and supporting his grandchildren’s events. He was an avid sports fan, especially Packer football and Brewers baseball and enjoyed playing cards and fishing. During the past years he lived at the Aster Retirement Community in Marshfield. While at Aster, he enjoyed helping the other residents, but mostly he enjoyed playing Smear. He helped to welcome new residents, and will be missed by all. The family wishes to thank the staff at Aster Retirement Community for all of their services.

He is survived by his children, Carol (Dan) Richard, Marshfield, Dick (Vicki) Travener, Marshfield, Danny (Toni) Bravener, Greenwood, Ken (Karen) Bravener; Indian Trail, N/C., Barb (Rich) Kane, Platteville, and Arnie (Brenda) Bravener, Arpin; 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, William (Geri) Bravener, Tripoli, Iowa; one sister, Ladonna Bergmann, Fredricka, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Hershsl (Coleen) Teter, Marshfield and Dale (Barbara) Tete, Granton, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma, on March 31, 2004; and five sisters, Velletta Johnston, Valerie Schwartz, Clare White, Cleona Sondy and Lucille Bravener.
