Washburn (23 April 1970)
Several friends
and neighbors surprised Mr. and Mrs. Clam Steffes last week Wednesday night with
a farewell party. Mr. and Mrs. Steffes have sold their farm and will move to
Chilton before the first of May.
Mr. and Mrs. Arlyn Ritter and family of
Granton moved last week onto the Alvin Krause farm which they purchased some
time ago.
Monday morning looked like winter had returned with a light
coating of snow. The rain on Sunday turned to snow that night and it snowed
quite hard for a while.
A few of the farmers got part of their oats sowed
but many of them don’t have any planted yet.
Mrs. Elmer Kapfer
entertained the Cannonville Ladies Aid last week Tuesday with six members
attending. Mrs. Horace Rodman will be hostess at the next meeting May 13.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Pretsch and family of Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer
Krause of Marshfield, Mrs. Wanda Pretsch and son, Earl, Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Jelinek and son, Roger, and Mrs. Joe King were Sunday dinner and supper guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Harry King in Pine Valley, in honor of the birthdays of Mr. and
Mrs. King.
Mr. and Mrs. Leland Dopp and daughters, Linda and Dixie, of
Marshfield were dinner guests Sunday of her mother, Mrs. Irving Stevens. Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Urban and daughter, Brenda, visited at the Stevens home Sunday
afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kapfer were in Marshfield Wednesday. Mrs.
Kapfer had a check-up.
Mrs. Frank Short was quite ill last week with Flu.
Robert Matuszak and son of Milwaukee and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Staffon and
family of Hatfield were weekend guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. William
Matuszak. Little Scotty Staffon has been spending a few weeks with his
grandparents.
Donald Havlicek assisted his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Havlicek, Sr., with some work Saturday.
