Thur, Ernest R. (3 August 1913 - 17 May 1970)

Ernest R. Thur, 56, Rt. 1 Neillsville, died Sunday, May 17, in Wisconsin Rapids. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Granton, with Rev. Roland H. Roehrs officiating. Burial was made in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Mr. Thur was born August 3, 1913 at Fairchild, to Rudolph and Clara (Watenpuhl) Thur. He was educated there and farmed most of his life time. He worked in Milwaukee for two years and returned to the farm in the Town of York. He married Freda Hefty, in Fairchild, October 28, 1936.

Survivors include his wife and four sons, The Rev. Melvin Thur of Paullina, Iowa; the Rev. Richard Thur of Alice, Texas; Vicar Gary Thur of Muskegon, Mich., and David Thur of Sturtevant. Survivors also include three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Ethel Klatt; Mrs. Alvin (Adelia) Janke, Gordon Thur all of Fairchild and Mrs. Blain (Darline) Hallister of Union Grove, and six grandchildren.

Thur, Ernest R. (3 August 1913 - 17 May 1970)

Funeral services for Ernest R. Thur, 56, of Rt. 1 Neillsville, who died May 17, were held at 2 p.m. last week Wednesday from the Zion Lutheran Church of Granton with the Rev. Roland H. Roehrs officiating. Burial was made in the parish cemetery. Mr. Thur was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.

Pallbearers were Alvin and Tom Thur, Harold Holman, Ricky Hollister, Roy Hefty and Leonard Klatt.

The congregation sang, “Asleep in Jesus”, “I Know that My Redeemer Lives’ and “Take My Life and Let it be”, accompanied by Mrs. Leland Garbisch.

People from out of town attending included the Rev. Melvin Thur and family of Paullina, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. David Thur and family of Sturtevant; the Rev. and Mrs. Richard Thur and family of Alice, Tex.; Vicar and Mrs. Gary Thur and family of Muskegon, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Hollister, Dan and Debbie Hollister and Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Hollister of Union Grove.

Duane Hefty of Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hoffman of Wausau; Mrs. Marie Hefty of Augusta; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hefty of Black River Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Thur of Sun Prairie; Miss Jane Thur and David Beck of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hefty and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Howard of Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hollman and Mr and Mrs. Edwin Hollman of Humbird.

Coming from Fairchild were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Thur, Thomas Thur, Shirley Thur, Mrs. Ethel Klatt, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Janke, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Klatt and girls, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Klatt and family, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Shipler, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Bequette, Harold Thur, Mrs. Gordon Hess and Mrs. Henry Emanuel.
