Embke, William (3 April 1883 - 30 June 1971)

Funeral services for William Embke, 88, who died June 30 at his home in Neillsville, were held Saturday, July 3, at 1:30 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral home. The Rev. Melvin Nickel of the United Methodist Church officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

William Embke, the son of Fred and Margaret (Peterson) Embke, was born April 3, 1883, in Illinois, where he received his education. He farmed as a young man and came to Clark County with his parents at the age of 21. The family farmed in the Town of Pine Valley.

He was married on December 31, 1914, to Helen Sorenson, who preceded her husband in death on February 28, 1920. Mr. Embke was married November 18, 1924, at Stevens Point to the former Marie Pohmann, who survives him. The Embkes farmed in the Town of York until 1933, when they retired and moved to Neillsville.

Survivors, in addition to his second wife, include: two children, Harold Embke of Rt. 1 Neillsville, and Mrs. Frederick (Elizabeth) Stelter, Neillsville; a sister, Miss Emma Embke of Elgin, Ill.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Thomas Pagenkopf, Frederick Stelter, Jr., David Herron, Donald Krehmeyer, Stanley Blaskowski, and Dick Kren. “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Rock of Ages” were sung by Mrs. Sarah Smigelski, who was accompanied by Mrs. James Musil.

Those from out of town who attended the services were Miss Emma Embke of Elgin, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Stelter, Jr., and family of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Blaskowski and family and Mr. and Mrs. David Herron and family of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Kren of Watertown, and Everett Gehrt of Loyal.
