 Corbin, William (02 DEC 1898 – 08 NOV 1939)

 William Corbin, 40 died at his home at Pittsville at 12:50 a.m., Wednesday morning November 8, 1939.  He had been ill since early in the year.  He was born in Piper City, Ill., Dec. 2, 1898.  When he was 17 years old he moved to Ada Minn. with his parents.  The following year he entered in the 17th regiment of the U.S. Army.

On Sept. 15, 1922 he was married to Miss Martha Keiner of Greenwood, at St. Paul, Minn., after their marriage they made their home in Milwaukee where he was employed as an electrical engineer.  In 1926 they moved to Greenwood, Wis., where he was engaged in the Meat Market business with his father-in-law and brother-in-law.  He came to Pittsville 10 years ago and has been co-owner of the Clover Farm Store there with his brother-in-law, Leonard Leberg.

At the time of his death he was president of the Pittsville Civic Club and Post commander of the Pittsville American Legion Post.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Lawrence 16 and Charles 14 and one daughter Marlene 6.  He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Marcella Corbin and a brother Charles Corbin, both of Ada, Minn.  His father preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 1930.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1:30 from the Pittsville Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. from the Congregational Church, the Rev. D.J. Appleby officiating.  Burial was made in the Mound Cemetery, Pittsville.

It was a military funeral, attended by the firing squad and color guard members of the American Legion and flag bearers of the Auxiliary.

The American Legion and Legion Auxiliary attended the service in a body.  Pallbearers were business associates, Engwold Wills, Wm. Haunschild, Art Sowatzke, John Milcarek, Fred Speich and Warren Lindberg.

Mrs. E. Monnette and Miss Alyce Leiser sang “Safe in the Arms of Jesus: and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere: accompanied by Miss Carol Ducky at the organ.

Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. Marcella Corbin and Charles of Ada, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Christ Keiner and daughters, Louise and Freda and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Keiner of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Keiner of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mallow, Mrs. Charles Romang, and Mrs. Gordon Hanson of Oconomowoc; Mr. and Mrs. Gottfried Romang and son Ed, Mr. and Mrs. E.O. Plesch, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Plesch and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lehman and daughter Shirley of Athens; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Fuller of Madison; Mrs. Perry Volk of Loyal; Jerry Cerney and A. Shafton of Stevens Point; and Sam Marshek and Wm. Kenny of Marshfield.
