Richmond, Fred B. (9 JUL 1872 - 14 JAN 1953)

Fred B. Richmond, 80, a resident of Stevens Point and the area most of his life, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 14, 1953 at 11 o'clock at the Wood County Hospital at Marshfield.

Mr. Richmond had been a patient there for about the last two years and before that was a patient at the Winnebago Hospital for one years. For a short time before entering the latter hospital, he resided at Soule's Convalescence Center.

He lived here in recent years with his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harold Richmond, 506 Church Street.

He was born July 9, 1872 at Arnack?, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George H. Richmond. He spent his boyhood there and at Knowlton, receiving his education at Knowlton.

In his young manhood he began his railroad career with the old Wisconsin Central. He later served as conductor for the railroad, which in the meantime had become the Soo Line. He retired in about 1927.

For about the next six years he operated a grocery store at 517 Strongs Avenue.

Mr. Richmond was married June 20, 1893 at Edgerton, Ohio, to the former Maude Thorpe. She preceded him in death in 1936.

The couple's first home was in Stevens Point. They lived here four years and then moved to Greenwood (Clark Co. Wis.). In 1916 they returned here and lived for some time at 222 Dixon Street.

Prior to Mr. Richmond's recent illness, he had made his home for several years with his late sister, Mrs. Royal Beck, Washington, D.C., and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Mayme Horton at Bryan, Ohio.

Mr. Richmond was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a former member of the Order of Railway Conductors, the Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his only son, Harold, who died in 1938?, his sister, Mrs. Beck, and a brother, James.

Surviving are five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and nieces.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Trinity Church, with burial made in the spring in Forest Cemetery. (Stevens Point Daily Journal)
