Johnson, Amanda (8 APR 1882 - 19 SEP 1953)

Mrs. Peter M. Johnson, nee Amanda Elisa Johnston, daughter of Herman and Mary Johnston, was born April 8, 1882 in the Town of Warner, Clark County, Wis. here she received her education and grew to womanhood.

On Dec. 31, 1902 she was united in marriage to Peter M. Johnson. They resided on a farm northeast of Greenwood for 40 years, moving to Greenwood in 1942. Mr. Johnson passed away in 1948.

Mrs. Johnson passed away in her sleep at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Verhulst on Saturday morning, Sept. 19, 1953. She had been ill for about a week with heart trouble, but seemed to be improving.

Funeral services were held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on Wednesday, Sept. 23rd at 2:00 p.m. Rev. M. Egge officiated. She was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.

During the service Mrs. Louis Behrens and Mrs. Don Tieman sang "Save in the Arms of Jesus" and "Just As I Am," accompanied by Mrs. Don Warner at the organ.

The pallbearers were Dave Danielson, Otto Voie, Elmer Johnson, Henry Olson, Paul Johnson, Theodore Windom.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Esther) Verhulst, Greenwood Mrs. Harold (Grace) Haupt, Loyal, and Mrs. Lester (Joyce) Luther, Eau Claire; one brother, Leonard Johnson, Greenwood, and three sisters, Mrs. David (Selma) Gustafson, Chicago Mrs. Josie Hubble, Greenwood and Mrs. Sigrud (Olga) Johnson, Loyal, eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Mrs. Lee (Serina) Jolivette and Mrs. Helen Peterson, and a brother, Severin Johnson.
