Jens, Terry L. (19 DEC 1964)

The United Church of Christ of Owen was the scene of a candlelight ceremony in which Miss terry Lynn Jens and Daniel A. Doberstein exchanged marriage vows on Dec. 19, 1964. The church was decorated for Christmas with a large Christmas tree and the altar flowers were red poinsettias. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Robert Goessling.

The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Jens of Owen, was given in marriage by her father to the son of Mrs. Marian Doberstein, Marinette. Before the ceremony Miss Dianne Burhop sang "The Lord's Prayer," and Jeff Mathewson sang "I Love Thee." The organ was played by Mrs. Dorothy Rabska.

The bride was elegant in a white velvet floor length gown with a fitted bodice and lace paneled front sprinkled with sequins and a bateau neckline. The full skirt flowed into a long cathedral train in back. A Watteau train of bridal lace was fastened to the shoulders in a gathered yoke with tiny bows. Her headpiece was a small white velvet pillbox embroidered with pearls and sequins and held a bouffant veil of silk illusion in ballerina length. She carried a cascade of five red and white poinsettias outlined with holly leaves.

Preceding the bride to the altar were her aides, Mrs. Roy Grunwaldt, Waupaca, matron of honor, and bridesmaids, Mrs. Vern Anderson, Phillips, both cousins of the bride, and Betsy Jens, sister of the bride. They wore floor length dresses of deep red velvet styled with fitted paneled bodice, semi-full skirts and a Watteau panel falling from a butterfly bow in the back. They wore matching red pillbox hats with short white veils of illusion. They carried white fur muffs, to which was pinned a red poinsettia surrounded by holly leaves. The little flower girl, Susan Meyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Meyer of Appleton, was dressed also in red velvet and carried a white muff with a poinsettia on it. Don Strubel of Park Falls was best man, and the groomsmen were James Meyer of Appleton and Vern Anderson of Phillips, Phillip Kersten, Posen, Ill., and Tim Jens, Owen, served as ushers.

The wedding reception and dinner were held at the Meadowview County Club in Owen.

The new Mrs. Doberstein is a 1963 graduate of Owen-Withee High School and attended Stevens Point University for one year, after which she was employed at Waupaca. Mr. Doberstein is now a student at Stevens Point University and upon graduation this June will become a commissioned officer in the Unites States Marine Corps.

The couple will be at home for the next few months in Stevens Point.

Pre-nuptial showers given in honor of the bride were a linen shower on Nov. 26 at the home of Mrs. Caroline Gummerson, and in early December a miscellaneous shower at the home of Mrs. Jim Peterson. A personal shower was given in Phillips by friends and relatives at the summer cottage of Mrs. Paul Kersten, Posen, Ill.

Out of town guests included friends and relatives from Appleton, Phillips, Fond du Lac, Marinette, Stevens Point, Eagle River, Colby and Unity, Wis., and Posen, Ill.
