Initiated to the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi were Cindy M. Pinter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Pinter, Route 1, Abbotsford, and Ronald Schiferl, son of Mrs. Felix Schiferl, Abbotsford.

The primary objective of Phi Kappa Phi is the recognition and encouragement of superior scholarship in all fields of study. The society was founded in 1897 and the Eau Claire Chapter was establish in April 1969. Approximately 100 juniors and seniors and several graduate students and faculty members are initiated each year.

Phi Sigma Alpha, the University of Delaware Chapter of the National Political Science Honor Society announced that Michael A. Hansen has been selected for membership. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hansen, Route 1, Abbotsford.

In order to be selected, the student must demonstrate exceptional knowledge in two subfields of political science, through high academic standing.

Hansen is a graduate student pursuing his Master’s degree in political science, concentrating his studies on public administration and American government. He is currently in his second semester of graduate work, and had previously been named to the University of Delaware dean’s list, based on his scholastic record.

McCommons, Carol J. (7 May 1977)

Carol J. McCommons, Abbotsford, and James H. Firnstahl, Colby, were married Saturday, May 7, 1977 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby. The Rev. Frank Rushman performed the 5 p.m. services.

Parnets of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Ross J. McCommons, Carnesville, Pennsylvania. And Mr. and Mrs. James S. Firnstahl, Colby.

The bride wore a floor length empire styled gown trimmed with sheer Dacron organza rose point lace. The gown featured a high neckline, long full sleeves and a sweeping skirt. A lace Camelot headpiece held her rose point edged veil. She carried a boquet of white carnations and yellow roses.

Mrs. Denis Vanderleast, Stratford, was maid of honor. Kerry Firnstahl, Colby, Sandy Firnstahl, Colby, and Mrs. Debbie McCommons, Albion, Pennsylvania were bridesmaids.

They wore blue polyester gowns with sheer capes. They carried a cluster of yellow daisies, white carnations and blue mums.

Attendants for the bridegroom included the best man, Dusty Zrutskie, Colby, and groomsmen, Mike McCarron, Colby, Dave Alexander, Colby, and James McCommons, Albion, Pennsylvania. Ushers were Randy Kilty and Warren Ayer.

A dinner followed at St. Mary’s parish hall. The reception was held at the VFW in Colby.

Youngsters of the confirmation class to be held May 29, 1977 at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby, got together Sunday to make a banner with their motto, “Spirit Lives through Us.” Taking part were Russell, Steinwanger, Paul Klehr, Jerome Haufe, Don and Darla Schmidt, Lori Tesmer, George Krueger, Lorraine Dommer, Esther Venske, Joe Bundgaard. They were assisted by Mrs. Arvin Dommer and Mrs. Haufe.

Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stuttgen, Athens, Gene Halopka, Dorchester, and Nona Emmerick, Medford.

Guests included the sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. John Pollock, Colby, great-grandfather, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Geiger, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Blasel and Greg, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Geiger and family, Mr. and Mrs. James Kittl and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Geiger and family and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Pollock and family, all of Colby, and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Radue and family, Loyal. They also celebrated Allen Baehr’s birthday.
