Habermeyer, Mabel Helen (Niemuth) (15 JUN 1922 - 30 DEC 2013)

Mabel Helen Habermeyer, 91, Augusta, died on Monday, Dec. 30 at the Augusta Area Nursing Home, where she had resided the past month. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 4 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairchild. Burial was at Fairchild Cemetery.

Anderson Funeral Home of Augusta assisted the family with arrangements.

The former Mabel Niemuth was born on June 15, 1922 in Stetsonville to the late Herman and Helen (Tindula) Niemuth. She attended the Little Black Country School.

On August 11, 1945 in Lincoln, Neb., she married Emery Habermeyer, who preceded her in death on March 10, 2006. They moved to San Diego, Calif., then returned to Stetsonville in 1946. In 1958 they moved to Fairchild where they owned and operated Habermeyer Tie and Lumber Company until 1979. They also operated a grading station, grading cucumbers for Bonduel Pickle Company and raised ginseng for 10 years. In addition to doing the bookwork for the family businesses, she operated the Fairchild Credit Union out of her home for over 40 years, and worked as a clerk at Jay McGregor's Auction Barn in Fairchild for over 10 years.

She served two terms on the Osseo-Fairchild School Board and worked on the election board for the Village of Fairchild. She enjoyed crocheting, visiting, playing cards and canning.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy (George) Remkus of Fairchild; a brother, Marvin Niemuth of Stetsonville; four sisters, Marcella Vlach of Tampa Bay, FL, Elaine Fritsche of Dorchester, Ruth Arndt of Medford and Vivian (Henry) Hentges of St. Charles, MN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ellen Niemuth, Henry Weiler, Arthur Ludwig, Janet Niemuth, Patricia and Melvin Gebert, Wayne Bischel, Marion and Robert Paul and Dorothy and Ev Sonsalla; two grandchildren, Sarah (John) Rogotzke of Sugar Camp and Matthew (Camille Guenther) Remkus of Lakeville, MN; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Rachel Weiler, Pearl Wieneke, Beatrice Ludwig, Glenn and Vernon Niemuth and a brother in infancy.
