Krebsbach, Urban Peter (8 MAY 1919 - 5 MAR 2014)

Urban Peter Krebsbach, 94, died on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Wells Nature View CBRF, Marshfield, under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.

He was born May 8, 1919, in Johnsburg, Minn., son of the late John and Catherine (Stephani) Krebsbach. The family moved to the Town of Cassel when Urban was six months old. He attended St. John Catholic School in Edgar, and graduated from Edgar High School.

On May 10, 1943, he married Ann Marie Dreikosen at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marathon.

She preceded him in death on February 15, 2005. Urban was the owner/operator of Krebsbach's Service in Edgar beginning in 1941, having built the current station building in 1950, and continuing until his retirement in 1984.

He was a life-long member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgar, and of the Holy Name Society. Urban was a member of the Board of Directors for the Bank of Edgar for 21 years, and also a Vice President of the bank for 11 of those years. He served as an Edgar Village Trustee for two years, and was a member of the Edgar Lion's Club when it was first formed.

Urban was always on the go, working hard at the station or his home garden, and playing hard at baseball, fishing, hunting or golf. He played baseball for 26 years in the Marathon County League, two years in the Yellow River Valley League, one year in the Wisconsin Valley League, and was a league all-star for many years. He and Ann Marie enjoyed parties with family and friends, dancing and playing cards.

After open-heart surgery in 2007, and the progression of Parkinson's disease, Urban moved from his home in Edgar to Wells Nature View in Marshfield where he was a favorite of all the caregivers for his jokes and wisecracks, and his courtesy. He moved to Pine Ridge Assisted Living in Colby in March of 2012, and gained a whole new audience for his jokes. He returned to living at Wells in March of 2013.

Survivors include four sons, Duane, Madison, Kenneth (Connie), Edgar, Glen, Wausau and Randy (June), Stratford; and two grandchildren, Arron and Amy Krebsbach. Also surviving are one sister, Jeanette Guralski, Colby, one sister-in-law, Melanie Krebsbach, Colby, and one brother-in-law, Robert Wilichowski, Marathon.

Besides his parents and wife, Urban was preceded in death by brothers, Alfred, Edmund and Raymond, and sisters, Loretta Ploederl and Mildred Wilichowski. Two sisters Elizabeth and Isabelle, died in childhood.

Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Robert Streveler will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.

There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Ministry Home Care Hospice, Wells Nature View and Pine Ridge Assisted Living for the excellent care given to Urban during his stay.
