Smiley, George C. (20 April 1934 - 9 July 2014) With Flag

George C. Smiley, 80, of Kewaunee died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the emergency room at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital.

George was born April 20, 1934, in West Chester, PA, to Herbert and Helen (Hammond) Smiley. He was united in marriage to Karen A. Goerl Aug. 23, 2002, in Green Bay.

He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. After retiring from Walt Disney World in 1989, where he worked for 13 years as a painter, George moved to the Marshfield/Neillsville area to start his own painting business, George Smiley Painting. He moved to Kewaunee in 2002, where he volunteered his time for many charities bur mainly to the Algoma/Kewaunee Great lakes Sport Fishing Club. With a sense of humor that touched each person’s heart, he filled the room with is smile.

George is survived by his wife, Karen, of Kewaunee; children, Lori (Neriah) Levin of Nevada City, CA, and Lynn Follen of Loyal; and one grandson, Talon George Follen of Loyal. He is further survived by three sisters, Susan, Sarah and Ellen.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Smiley.

Visitation for family and friends took place Saturday, July 12, 2014, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield.
