Wincek, Joseph F. (12 JAN 1928 – 24 FEB 1966)

Joseph F. Wincek, 38, Rt. 2 (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) was killed Thursday afternoon when trapped under his tractor while hauling logs on this farm five miles southwest of Bellinger, and about eight miles north of here, in the town of Taft.

Taylor County Coroner John Amo said that Wincek left home about 2 p.m. with his tractor to skid logs in his woodlot. He had dropped logs so they would self-deck themselves on a side hill alongside an old railroad right of way, when the tractor apparently rolled and dropped upside down onto the pile of long, pinning him beneath the seat and fender. Time of death was estimated at between three and four p.m.

The body was found by a brother-in-law, Joe Przewoznik, about 7:30 p.m., after Wincek's wife, Virginia, called for help when her husband didn't return from the woods.

Joe was born on Jan. 12, 1928 to Sophie and joseph F. Wincek Sr. of rural Thorp, where eh grew up and attended Field School in Clark County. He was then employed for approximately 9 years at the Wild Cherry Dairy, and also farmed with his parents on the rural family farm.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Przewoznik on June 23, 1951 at Chicago, Ill. The couple then moved to their farm in the Town of Taft, and four children were born, Dennis, Joseph, Elaine and Shelly. During the past 5 years he was also patrol operator for the Town of Taft.

Funeral services conducted by S.D. Seltzer of Marshfield were held Sunday afternoon, Feb. 27, 1966 at 2:00 from the Thorp Funeral Home Chapel. He was laid to rest in East Thorp Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, and four children, Dennis 13, Joseph 11, Elaine 6, and Shelly 5; his mother, Sophie Wincek; one step-brother, Richard Wincek of Chicago, 5 sisters, Mrs. Adolph (Irene) Rycerz, Thorp, Mrs. Anton (Valerie) Jacks, Thorp, Mrs. Ted (Eleanor) Kapica, Chicago, Mrs. Joe (Lorraine) Cichon, Cicero, and Mrs. Marion (Rose) Burzynski, Thorp. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Sr.

Friends and relatives attending funeral services from out of town were from Shelton, Neb., Chicago, Cicero, Downers Grove, Bellwood and Broadview, Ill., Marshfield, Arpin, Greenwood, Withee, Stanley and Lublin.
