Jingle, Walter Sr. (11 September 1907 - 21 March 1988)

Walter Jingle, Sr., 80, of Route 1 Merrillan, died Monday afternoon, March 21, at the Black River Memorial Hospital; prior to that he had been at the Pine View Nursing Home in Black River Falls for a few months.

He was born Sept. 11, 1907 in Moon Run, Pa., to Albert and Mary (Wondos) Jingle. He married Rose Novak May 23, 1931 in Chicago, and had been employed by Sears Roebuck as a sorter prior to moving to Merrillan in 1957. For five years he was employed by the Jackson Box Company at Black River Falls and also ran the Stone Garage Tavern in Hatfield for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Rose of Merrillan; two sons, Richard and Walter, Jr., both of Merrillan; three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Darlene) Ariel of Chicago, Mrs. LeRoy (Margaret “Peggy”) Johnson of Oak Lawn, Ill., and Rosemarie Jingle of Round lake, Ill; three sisters, Mary Zabukowek of Arizona, Rose Ailars of St. Charles, Mo., and Josephine Wodarczyk of Oak Lawn, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Stanley and Joe and one sister, Bertha.

The funeral for Walter Jingle, Sr., was at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 1988, from the United Methodist Church in Merrillan with the Rev. Lois Buchholz officiating. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery at Merrillan. Friends called at the Jensen Funeral Home in Hixton Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. and at the church Thursday during the hour prior to the funeral service.
