Dr. Noel Schraufnagel, a 1957 graduate of Abbotsford High School will be inducted into Abbotsford’s Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Alumni during a halftime ceremony at the Sept. 26 Homecoming football game versus Wausau Newman.

Schraufnagel was an outstanding student-athlete during his high school career. He was a four year letter winner in football, basketball and baseball. He was an all-conference player in football and basketball, earning all-state honorable mention in football in 1956. He also played on the Abbotsford City baseball team for 10 years.

After several years as a factory worker, Schraufnagel enrolled at UW-River Falls where he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1967. While at UW-RF, he played baseball, winning the conference championship in his sophomore year. He was a true student-athlete, with awarded the Chisholm Award for outstanding English student as an undergrad.

After being named a NDEA Fellowship recipient, Schraufnagel went on to do graduate work, receiving a doctorate degree from the University of Nebraska. His career led him to Alcorn State University in Lorman, Miss., as a professor of English for 32 years, retiring in 2002 as a full professor emeritus.

Schraufnagel has authored two books. “From Apology to Protest - The Black American Novel,” was published in 1973 by Everett/Edwards Publishers.

The second, “The Baseball Novel,” was published in 2008. Schraufnagel continues to be a well-known collector of baseball books, serving as a resource for researchers and enthusiasts

Dr. Schraufnagel and his wife Darlene, also a retired instructor from Alcorn State University, have twin daughters, Darcy and Dana, who are college administrators in Georgia.
