Humbird (19 July 1973)

Mrs. Johanna Olson had quite an experience last week. A small skunk broke through the screen on a basement window. After a two-day search the little fellow was finally captured and peace was restored - with no bad results.

Mr. and Mrs. Al Elmer of New Glarus and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Aebersold of Rockford, Il., spent the weekend visiting Mrs. Emma Gerber, William Aebersold and Richard Zimmerman. Mrs. Aebersold remained here for a few days to help her brother, Richard Zimmerman, do some house cleaning.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Greub and children were overnight guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Greub Monday. They were on their way home to River Falls from a trip to eastern states.

We are sorry to report the death of Mrs. Albert Holman of the Tindahl district. Mrs. Holman is the aunt of Mrs. Elmer Duerkop.

Harry Wilson of Eau Claire was a supper guest Friday at the Arnold Matti home.

Skip Nibbe and two friends from Hobart, Ind., came Saturday to vacation at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Kate Dignin.

Mr. and Mrs. Alton Stallard called at the Levi Fitzmaurice home Sunday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Laffe attended the funeral of Mrs. David Smith in Loyal Friday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Sieg, Jill and Jeff, attended a picnic dinner in Augusta Sunday, honoring the 80th birthday of his grandmother.

The United Methodist Women’s Society met Thursday afternoon in the park for a picnic dinner and a regular meeting and program. Plans are being made for an early fall thrift sale.

Mr. Walter Burkhalter of Rockford came up Satruday and with her mother, Mrs. Johanna Olson, drove to Duluth to spend a few days visiting relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Willis Johnson and family of Appleton were weekend guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Polege.

Mr. and Mrs. Art Allen were here from Wisconsin Rapids Sunday, her son, Jack Moore bringing them. They attended the funeral of Melvin Markham and also visited at the John Phillips home.

William Staves, who suffered a heart attack, is coming along well and hopes to be home soon.

Miss Lottie Ruth Fryer was here from California last week and was a guest of Mrs. William Staves. She called at the Newton home and on friends in Merrillan and Black River Falls.

Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Burnett and family and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Burnett and children were supper guests Sunday at the Perle Pickett home.

Mrs. Roy Johnson drove to Eau Claire Monday, to meet their son, Terry, who is home on furlough.

Mr and Mrs. Perle Pickett spent Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Johns in Alma Center.

Nancy Ness of Rosemont, Mn, is spending a week with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Terrell.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Thompson and son of Kenosha visited Thursday with her niece, Mrs. Levi Fitzmaurice.

Mrs. Frieda Zerbel spent from Sunday until Wednesday with her daughter, Mrs. DeWayne Schweinler, in Elroy.

Mr and Mrs. Otto Dux of Neillsville were guests Sunday of Mrs. Frieda Zerbel.

Mrs. Sylvester Taylor is a guest of Mrs. Anita Markham this week.
