The farm home of John D. Wuethrich, Jr., two and one-half miles southeast of Greenwood, was burned to the ground Friday morning with a loss estimated at $7,000. The building was only partly covered b insurance.

The origin of the blaze, which was discovered at 9:30 a.m., is uncertain. A brush fire was burning at the time, but it is believed to have been too far from the house to have caused the fire. A defective chimney is advanced as another theory on the cause of the fire.

An alarm was turned in to Greenwood and a number of local residents hurried to the scene to join farmers who were fighting the blaze, but the home could not be saved. A woodshed and milk house were also burned.

The furniture was carried to safety and was later moved into the house on the former shields farm, where the family now resides. Mrs. Wuethrich and a hired man and a hired girl were along on the farm at the time of the fire, Mr. Wuethrich being absent on a butter route.
