Jasmer, Dale Irwin (22 March 1925 - 27 December 2014)

Dale I. ‘Papa Smurf’ Jasmer, age 89, of Thorp, WI, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at Deerview Meadows in Medford. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin. Rev. Gerard Willger officiated and burial followed in Riverside Cemetery in Withee. Visitation was held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Dale Irwin Jasmer was born on March 22, 1925, in Verndale, MN, to Carl and Susanna (Lambert) Jasmer. As a young child, Dale’s family moved to the Maplehurst area in Taylor County, where he was raised and received his education. After completing his education, Dale worked several jobs including: a farmhand, a factory worker in Abbotsford making windows, as a blacksmith shop in Withee, and he hauled gravel. He was united in marriage to Marcella M. Witalis on April 18, 1964, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin. Dale and Marcella farmed in the Town of Taft for many years, and Dale also worked for the Town of Taft, at the Town’s recycling center until his retirement.

He had many interests, but especially enjoyed taking care of his chickens, horses, and donkeys. On most days, he could be found in his garage, taking things apart to scrap for recycling. He was known for his smile and his white beard, and was affectionately called ‘Papa Smurf’ by many.

Dale is survived by his wife, Marcella, of Thorp; two sons: Gary Jasmer of Wausau, and Jerome Jasmer of Amherst; one brother, Mylo Jasmer of Withee; two sisters: Evelyn Wall of Lublin, WI and Caroline Nicpon of Barron, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Loren and Vernon Jasmer; and three sisters: Doris Cardinal, Alvera Anderson and Marie Sherwood.
