The City of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) is going to have a new fire engine, the first mechanical pumper in its history.

The contracts for a chassis, fire truck body and 500-gallon pump were approved at a meeting of the City Council on Sept. 19, 1939. The total cost of the pumping engine will be $3,284.50, and it is hoped that the additional equipment for fire protection will reduce greatly recent substantial raises in insurance rates on city property.

The chassis will be a Ford, with Mercury motor, purchased through Speich & Braun Inc., on a bid of $864.

The W.S. Darley & Co. of Chicago, who low bid of $2,420 for the body, pump, booster and hose, and ladder accessories, was accepted, expect to start work this week.

The Darley Company estimated it would take from 4 to 6 weeks to complete its work.
