Maruna, Joseph (15 MAY 1870 – 31 AUG 1946)

Joseph Maruna, son of Joseph Maruna and Marie (Schodeva) Maruna, was born in Bohemia on May 15, 1870 and came to America in 1889, and made his home with his sister in Cleveland, later going to Prairiesburg, Iowa, where he worked on a farm.

In 1896 he was united in marriage to Katrina Babak at Marion, Ohio. To this union was born one son, Joseph Jr., now of Anamosa, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Maruna resided at Cudahy for over 25 years and came to Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) in October 1945, and have since made their home with their step-son, Louis Babak.

He passed away at the Babak home on Saturday, Aug. 31, 1946. A Requiem Mass was read on Tuesday, Sept. 3rd at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and he was laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery. Rev. J. Novak officiated.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Joseph Maruna of Anamosa, Iowa; a step-son, Louis Babak of Greenwood, and 4 grandchildren.

His parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters preceded him in death.

The pallbearers were Jos. Wolf, Gerald Denk, Joseph Kohlnhofer, Ed Hinker, John Susa Jr.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Mrs. Anna Maruna, forest Lake, Minn.; Mrs. Harold Kapaun and daughter, Anna Louise, St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Joseph Maruna Jr. and daughter Ollie, Anamosa, Iowa; Mrs. Jos. Ruley, Oxford Junction, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Geissler, Mrs. Emil Boos and daughters, Bernice and Vernetta, Mrs. Damos Bowe and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Boos, all of Chippewa Falls, Wis.
