Smith, Bergen O. (10 November 1900 - 30 May 1979)
 

Bergen O. Smith died following a lingering illness at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at his home at 410 E. Second Street. He was 78.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Gesche Funeral Home, with burial at Neillsville City Cemetery. The Rev. William A. Noble, pastor of United Methodist Church will officiate. Friends may call from 5 - 9 p.m. Friday and until services Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born Nov. 10, 1900 at Dancy and as an infant moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Smith, to Kaukauna where he attended schools and worked in paper mills for several years. On Oct. 23, 1923 at Menominee, Mich., he married Alice Hyland. The couple resided in Sturgeon Bay for two years before coming to Clark County to locate on a dairy farm near Neillsville and in 1938 moved to the city of Neillsville.

While maintaining residence in Neillsville, Mr. Smith worked for two years in Great Lakes, Ill. He was employed for 12 years by Fullerton and Larson Lumber companies and later with Kurt Marg Mink Farm. Before retiring in 1977, he was employed by Urban Motors. He was a member of United Methodist Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith observed their golden wedding anniversary in October 1973. Mrs. Smith survives along with four daughters, Mrs. Gladys Parrot and Mrs. Charles (Bonnie) Straube, both of Milwaukee, Mrs. James (Nancy) Breitung, Neillsville, and Mrs. Robert (Etta) Czarnik, Merrillan; six sons, Ralph, Clawson, Mich., Herbert, Milwaukee, Oakley, Rockford, Ill., Arlo, Colorado Springs, Colo., Duane, Racine, and Darwin, Augusta; a brother, Wilbur, Waukesha; 23 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Everett, two daughters, Betty and Marie, a brother, a sister, and two great-grandchildren.

Smith, Bergen O. (10 November 1900 – 30 May 1979)

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, June 2, from the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville for Bergen O. Smith, 78, who passed away four days earlier. The Rev, William Noble of the United Methodist Church officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

All grandsons were pallbearers, Kent and Brent Smith, Mark and Mike Straube, Steve Parrett and James Breitung. Iris Musil provided funeral service music.

Those attending from out of town were Mr./Mrs. Lucien Moh, Mr./Mrs. Oliver Williams and Mr./Mrs. Armond Moh, of Granton; Mr./Mrs. Chet Williams, Deborah Rosenstock and Jim and Lona Wkasick, of Milwaukee; Doris Williams, Loyal; Mr./Mrs. Al Newmann, Merrillan; Mr./Mrs. Donald Hyland, Grafton; Mr./Mrs. Ben Allen, Little Suamica; Violet, and Sue Putman, Oconto Falls; Mr./Mrs. Steve Maus, Green Bay; Mr./Mrs. Joe Kerry, Marshfield; Wilbur Smith and Catherine Burrow, Waukesha; and Mr./Mrs. Raleigh Smith, Altoona.
