Zimmerman, Lloyd Myron (14 November 1928 - 18 February 2015) With Flag

Lloyd Zimmerman, 86, of Neillsville died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center. Lloyd Myron Zimmerman was born Nov. 14, 1928, in the Town of Berlin, Marathon County, the son of Elmer and Lora (Klebnow) Zimmerman.

Lloyd’s family moved to Loyal when he was two years old. Lloyd attended a rural school through eighth grade and then graduated from Loyal High School in 1946. He then worked as a mechanic for Braun Ford in Loyal. Lloyd then enlisted in the UI. S. Army and served in the 5th Division from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at the Thule Air Force Base in Greenland during that time, working in motor patrol maintenance.

Returning from military service, Lloyd worked for the Lakeshire Cheese Plant, Northside Elevator, Stock Chevrolet and Bertz Logging, all in Loyal.

Oct. 2, 1954, Lloyd and Delores Duncan were married at English Salem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. They have three children: Sandra (Roger) Gresh of Britton, SD, Brad (Jamie) Zimmerman of Hayward and Greg (Kristi) Zimmerman of Hillsboro.

Lloyd is survived by eight grandchildren: Angela (Gresh) Hawkinson, Randy Gresh; Joshua Zimmerman, Ethan Zimmerman; Garrett Zimmerman, Gavin Zimmerman, Marlina Zimmerman and Jade Zimmerman. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Bryce Hawkinson, Gabriella Hawkinson, Colin Gresh and Corbin Gresh.

Lloyd was predeceased by five brothers: Wilbert, Lavern, Elroy, Franklin and Rueben.

In November 1967, Lloyd and his family moved to Neillsville, where he started a career as a sales representative for the Equitable Life Insurance Company. In 1990, Lloyd retired at the age of 62, from selling insurance and then went on to work for the next 15 years as a Greenskeeper at the Neillsville Country Club. He loved maintaining the greens and fairways on the golf course.

Lloyd loved to spend time with his family and friends. He played city league basketball and baseball, bowled and golfed. Lloyd thoroughly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in sports events and concerts and was a life-long Green Bay Packer fan. One of his favorite enjoyments was going polka dancing with his wife Dee. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A Memorial service for Lloyd will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb/ 28, 2015, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Lowell Bolstad will officiate. Music will be provided by Kath Meshnick, pianist, and Ethan, Gavin and Marlina Zimmerman, vocalists. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Neillsville Veteran’s Council. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at the Gesche Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church.

Honorary casketbearers are: Joshua Zimmerman, Ethan Zimmerman, Garret Zimmerman, Gavin Zimmerman, Randy Gresh and Joshua Hawkinson.
