Jerry Apps, renowned and distinguished writer, speaker and Wisconsin Public Television and Radio personality, will speak at the Skyline Golf Course in Black River Falls, April 28, 2015, at 6:30 p.m.

Well renowned and distinguished writer, speaker and Wisconsin Public Television and Radio personality Jerry Apps will speak in Black River Falls Tuesday evening, April 28, 2015. Apps will speak at the Skyline Golf Course beginning at 6:30 p.m. His appearance is being co-sponsored by the Black River Falls Public Library, Jackson Electric Cooperative, Friends of the Library and Comfort Inn & Suites. Admission is free.

Apps, who was born and raised on a central Wisconsin farm, is professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the author of more than 30 books, many of them on rural history and country life. His nonfiction books include ‘Limping Through Life,’ ‘Rural Wit & Wisdom’ and ‘Barns of Wisconsin.’ In his latest book, ‘Whispers and Shadows: A Naturalist’s Memoir,’ Apps explores such topics as the human need for wilderness, rediscovering a sense of wonder and his father’s advice to ‘listen for the whispers’ and ‘look in the shadows’ to learn nature’s deepest lessons.

His numerous writing awards include ones from the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Library Association (the 2007 Notable Authors Award), American Library Association, Foreword Magazine, Midwest Independent Publishers Association, and Robert E. Gard Foundation, among others. In 2010, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. He is a former publications editor for UW-Extension.
