A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 29, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. John was born on June 6, 1946, the son of William and Pauline (Bond) Zassenhaus in Wausau, WI. He graduated from Colby High School in 1965 and joined the Army National Guard. On September 28, 1968, John was united in marriage to Sandra Kilty at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby.

John worked various jobs before becoming owner/operator of his own trucking company. He traveled throughout the Midwest for thirty years making many friends along the way. The last 14 years he was employed by Badger State Western as the Maintenance Supervisor.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, reloading firearm shells, and animals (especially his dog, Bear). He never met a stranger, his family recalls, as John thoroughly enjoyed talking to people, even those he did not know.

John is survived by his wife, Sandy of 46 years of Colby; his daughter, Stacy (Mathew) Kundinger of Arpin; two grandsons: Cody (Jasmine) Kundinger and Kyle Kundinger, both of Stratford. He is further survived by his brother, Charles (Theresa) Zassenhaus of Dorchester; two sisters-in-law, Sharon (Don) Smart of Colby and Darlene Andre of Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Pauline.

Family and friends may express condolences online at www.maurinaschilling.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the Clark County Humane Society, Neillsville.
