Burmeister, Shirley (18 MAY 1968)

The altar of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Boyd, was decorated with bouquets of yellow mums and white gladiolas when Shirley Burmeister became the bride of Harold M. Homan. Father Charles Herbers performed the 12 o’clock noon marriage ceremony on Saturday, May 18, 1968. Dennis and Douglas Eslinger assisted as Mass servers, while Sister Blanche Marie played the organ and the school choir sang. The bride placed a bouquet on the blessed Virgin’s altar, given to her by her nephew, Wayne Dohnalik.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Orville Burmeister, Boyd, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Homan, Slayton, Minn.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. Her floor length gown was styled of imported Chantilly lace over taffeta, with a crescent waistline, scalloped neckline and long tapered sleeves. She wore a matching lace mantilla which swept gracefully to a chapel train. She carried a bouquet of white glamelias and white tea roses and ivy. She also carried a pearl rosary, a gift of the groom.

Mrs. Martin Dohnalik was her sister’s matron of honor, and another sister, Mrs. Dale Eslinger, was bridesmaid. They wore floor length gowns of aqua imported chiffon with a scoop neckline and elbow length sleeves. The empire waistline featured white and aqua Venice lace daisies. The full back panel swept to the hemline. A matching bow held their blusher veils. They wore matching shoes. They also wore pearl drop earrings, a gift of the bride, and carried bouquets of white glamelias, tinted with aqua.

The groom’s brother Marvin Home as best man and Dale Eslinger, brother-in-law of the bride, was groomsman. They wore black tuxedos with glamelias boutonnieres. They also wore initialed cuff links, gifts of the groom. Ushers were Everett Homan, brother of the groom, and Martin Dohnalik, brother-in-law of the bride.

A reception was held at Rainbow Gardens from two to five o’clock, with about 300 friends and relatives attending. The hall was decorated with clusters of bells and aqua and white streamers. A floral centerpiece centered the bridal table. The four tier wedding cake, decorated in yellow, was baked by Nell Kure and cut and served by the groom’s sisters. Mrs. John Seichter poured and Judy Eslinger and Diane Dohnalik, nieces of the bride, presided at the guest book. A rehearsal dinner was held at the Harmony House on Friday evening.

The mother of the bride wore a three piece mint green suit with white accessories and a corsage of pink sweetheart roses and white carnations. The mother of the groom wore a similar corsage on her pink knit dress. She also wore white accessories.

The bride and groom are both employees of Thorp Finance at Thorp. After a wedding trip to Mackinac Island they will reside in Thorp.
