Pilgrim, Clarence H. (5 OCT 1923 - 18 JUL 2012)

Clarence H. Pilgrim, 88 of Stratford died peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Northside Elder Estate in Stratford under the care of Ministry Home Hospice. Funeral services will be 11am Saturday, July 28, 2012 at St. John’s “High Steeple” Lutheran Church in Edgar with Pastor Jeffrey A. Lambrecht officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitations will be at the Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home in Stratford on Friday, July 27, 2012 from 4-8pm and again on Saturday at the church from 9am until time of services.

Clarence was born on October 5, 1923 in Edgar to Herman and Elsa (Rietzow) Pilgrim. He attended Scotch Creek School and graduated from Edgar High School.

He was united in marriage to Edith Amhaus on September 1, 1945 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Edgar. Edith died on July 29, 1985. He then married Violet (Bornowski) Bohman Leitermann on September 1, 1991at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Edgar. Clarence grew up on the family farm and was a hard worker all of his life.

He was a dairy farmer for many years and retired from farming after the death of Edith. He drove truck for a cannery, worked in a recycling plant and as a gas station attendant. He began working for the Village of Stratford and retired in 2008 as an 85 year old youngster. Clarence was always active at church, having held numerous offices and served on many committees and was a lifelong member of the choir. As a young man, he played baseball in the local leagues and years later, bowled for many years in Athens and Edgar. He enjoyed playing cribbage, sheepshead and watching the Brewers and Packers.

Clarence was always willing to lend a helping hand and strong arms, wherever it was needed most. He is survived by his wife Violet of Stratford, children, Caroline (Richard) Meyer of Germantown, Shirley (John) Dorn of Grand Prairie, TX and June (Randy) Krebsbach of Stratford; stepchildren, Dan (Patti) Bohman of Mosinee and Jane (John) Wagner of Marshfield.

He is further survived by nine grandchildren: Paul (Stephanie) Meyer & their children April & Brianne, Ethan (Sabrina) Meyer, Elsa (Jason) Manske, Megan Meyer, Morgan (Travis) Shafer, Brian (Sarah) Dorn & their daughter Abigail Kim Dorn Gossling, Aaron Krebsbach, Amy Krebsbach. Also survived by four step-grandchildren Wendy (Ted) DiStefano & their children Alex & Christopher Matthew (Makiko) Meyer, Jake (Jenny) Meyer & their daughter Ava Nicki, (Dan) Seitz & their children Collin, Joshua, & Chasity

Besides his parents and first wife Edith, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Orville and Lloyd Pilgrim.
