Ryker weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 20.5 inches at birth.

Grandparents are Phil and Phyllis Arrowwood, Wausau; Dale and Laurie Seehafer, Marathon City.

Two students from Thorp have been named to receive the Chancellor’s Award for academic excellence during the first semester at UW-Stout.

They are Ron Kobylarczyk, a sophomore majoring in Hotel and Restaurant Management, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ry Kobylarczyk, Route 1, and Tom Kotecki, a sophomore majoring in psychology, and the son of Mr. Anthony Kotecki, Route 1.

The award replaces what has been traditionally known as the Dean’s List, and is present to students who have a semester grade point average of 3.5 or above.

Peter Liszewski, 89, former Lublin resident, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, Wednesday, March 17, 1976.

Funeral services were held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Lublin on Saturday, March 20, 1976 at 10:30 a.m., with burial being made in the parish cemetery.

Lora Lee Straughan from Greenwood High School was one of Wisconsin’s 23 honorable mentions of Wisconsin’s 23 honorable mentions in the annual Betty Crocker Search for Leadership in Family Living, a national educational scholarship program sponsored by General Mills.

Mark Weldy of Wauzeka High School was named the Wisconsin Betty Crocker Leader of Tomorrow for 1976. State level judging centered on performance in a written knowledge and attitude examination.

Thorp Chapter of the Jaycees and about 20 members were installed at the group’s charter banquet Monday night. Included were Daryl Braatz, Secretary, Phil Olson, State Director, Terry Misfeldt, Internal Vice President, Bill Gilbert, State President of the Jaycees and member of the Hudson Chapter, Dan Welgos, Treasurer, Gerry Vircks, President, and Chris Salm, External Vice President.

The Thorp chapter invites area men between 18 and 35 to join. The Jaycees, which has chapters across the nation and in other countries, believes in personal growth and success while working to help others through community involvement.

  Airman First Class Dean  B. Spaeth, whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Spaeth of Rt. 1, Stanley, is a member of  the Outstanding KC-135 Stratotanker Maintenance Crew of the Month at Kincheloe AFB, Michigan.

 

  Airman Spaeth’s crew was cited for extraordinary performance during operation training missions.  He is assigned to the     449th Organizational Maintenance Squadron, a unit of the Strategic Air Command.

 

  The airman is a 1972 graduate of Stanley-Boyd High School.

Alan K. Harshman, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Harshman, Rock Falls, Illinois, has just graduated from basic military training school, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

He will now be going to tech school at Kessler Air Force Base, Mississippi, studying as a radial equipment repairman. His wife, Joyce (Smith) of Thorp will be joining him soon.

Nowak, Thaddeus “Ted” (30 May 1930 – 14 Mar 1976)

Thaddeus “Ted” Nowak, 45, died at St. Anne Hospital, Chicago, March 14, 1976

Ted was born May 30, 1930 at St. Turibius Church, Chicago.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Ann; two sons, David and Daniel, Father and mother-in-law, Frank and Helen Drzal; two brothers, Walter (Gloria) Nowak and Matthew (Jean) Nowak; one sister, Helen (Robert) Finn; two brother-in-laws, Donald (Elizabeth) Drzal and Stanley (Bernadette) Niemiec, and niece and nephews.

A funeral mass was held at St. Turibius Church, Chicago, and then at St. Hedwig’s Church, Thorp, on Friday, March 19, 1976, with Father Mark and Father John officiating. Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery, Withee.

Pallbearers in Chicago were Stanley Niemiec, Donald Drzal, Edward Konar, Richard Konar, Michael Nowak and Stanley Pindak. Pallbearers at Thorp were Richard Nowak, Robert Zukowski, Chester Rogalski, Emil Rogus, Peter Moskiewicz, Jr., and Anton Rogus.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Balistreri, Greenfield, Wisconsin, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Debra, to John Rycerz. The future bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Rycerz, Thorp, Wisconsin.

Miss Balistreri is presently employed as a radiologic technologist at St. Francis Hospital, Milwaukee. Mr. Rycerz is employed at U.O.P. Bostrom Corporation, Cudahy, Wisconsin.

No definite wedding plans have been made.

Strozewski, Lillian (11 Mar 1886 – 7 Mar 1976)

The Rev. Warren W. Behling, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, conducted services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 1976 at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford for Mrs. Mike (Lillian) Strozewski, 89, Perkinstown. She died Sunday afternoon, March 7 at Medford, Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient the past three years. Prior to entering the hospital she resided at Medford Memorial Nursing Home for several years.

Burial will be in the Perkinstown Community Cemetery.

The former Lillian Ogle was born in Minnesota on March 11, 1886. In April 1905 she was married to Mike Strozewski, who preceded her in death February 23, 1964. Since her marriage she had lived in the Perkinstown and Gilman areas.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two son, four sisters and two brothers.

On March 19, 1976, the Nursing Assistant Class received their diplomas from Mrs. Orville Giselle, Area Coordinator from VTAE District One.

The class was instructed by Jeanette Sen, R.N., Thorp, and was held at the Havenet Nursing Home in Owen. It was an eight week session held for employees of that institution.

She students graduating were Carolyn Brossow of Withee, Mary Maas of Withee, Vera Roix of Curtiss, Eleanore DeMoss of Withee, Hilda Dearth of Owen, Bonnie Blum of Owen, Dorothy Sorensen of Withee, Katherine Dukart of Owen, Jeanette Senn, Instructor, Thorp, May Mrotek, Kathryn Campana, Linda Hamm, Amelia Dearth and Joc Baus, all from Owen.
