Ziehlke, Bernadine “Bernie” N. (Brede) (20 DEC 1930 - 11 AUG 2015)

Bernadine “Bernie” N. Ziehlke, age: 84, of Medford, died Monday, August 17, at her residence surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hope Hospice.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 20 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Medford, with Rev. Nancy Amacher officiating. Cremainal Interment will take place at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery in Little Black. Pallbearers are Jenna, Mike, Jacob and Mitchel Heinz, Tom, Ron, Tracy, Andrew and Adam Ploeckelman, Matthew Czerniak, Rachel Revels.

Visitation will be at 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. Thursday, August 20 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Medford

Bernadine was born December 20, 1930 in Medford, WI, to Frederick A. and Alda (Miller) Brede.

She attended High School. Bernadine left high school to care for her younger siblings while her mother worked. Bernadine spent much of her younger life caring for her younger siblings. She lost her father when she was nine years old. Bernadine was the second of five children. After her mother remarried, Bernadine became the sister of four more siblings.

Bernadine met the love of her life, Gerald “Jerry” R. Ziehlke, and they were married on August 3, 1947 in North Dakota. Bernadine loved being a wife, mother, and homemaker. She loved to cook, sew, make crafts, very active in church and had so many other talents. She worked as a waitress and they also raised mink for many years. Bernadine helped with their care. In later years they purchased a Montgomery Ward’s Store in Medford, which they owned and operated for several years. Eventually they then opened a Furniture Store on Highway 13 in Medford. Bernadine worked full time at both the Montgomery Ward’s business until it sold and later at the furniture business. Bernadine had many health problems throughout her life but she still managed to overcome them and care for her family and home and do her fair share of providing for their family. Bernadine was a very caring and loving lady and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Medford.

Bernadine is survived by her husband, Gerald “Jerry” R. Ziehlke of Medford; children Carol (Tom) Ploeckelman of Hartford and Terrie (Wayne Staven) Revels of Medford; grandchildren
Jenna (Mike) Heinz, Ron (Tracy) Ploeckelman, Matthew Czerniak and Rachel Revels; great grandchildren Jacob and Mitchel Heinz and Andrew and Adam Ploeckelman.

She is also survived by her siblings Patrick (Henrietta) Leary of Chippewa Falls, Michael (Becky) Leary of Medford, Daniel (Laura) Leary of Medford, Ellen (Jim) Borman of Owen.

Bernadine is predeceased by her father Frederick A. Brede; mother Alda (Miller); step father D.H. Leary; siblings Barbara Siewert; Raymond Brede; Milan Brede and Shirley Leary.
