Scherf, Thomas E. (9 MAR 1938 - 30 MAY 2015)

Thomas E. Scherf, 77, of Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, May 30, 2015.

Services are Noon Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church, Moline, with The Rev. Dr. Mark E. Gehrke officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to the church. Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, Moline, is serving the family.

Thomas Edward Scherf was born March 9, 1938, a twin son of Sabin and Emma (Remley) Scherf in the Township of Hixon, Wisconsin, in the house built by his grandparents.

After growing up on Route 1, Withee, in the Township of Longwood, Wisconsin, and graduating from Owen-Withee High School in 1956, he and his twin brother Frank worked on their parents' farm outside of Withee for two years before heading to Korea in the United States Army. Shortly after returning home from serving their country in the DMZ, the Scherf twins were offered jobs at Farmall in the Quad Cities, and later worked for Case IH.

Tom was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Moline, and later Faith Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing euchre and dominos, as well as watching the Green Bay Packers. One highlight of his life was when Tom was able to attend one of their games in 1953, while still in high school, as part of a field trip. He will be remembered as a somewhat quiet person who had a comedic side to him. He also enjoyed square dancing and was a member of Solo Steppers.

Tom is survived by his siblings, Frank Scherf of Moline, Emma Lou Scherf of Eugene, Oregon, and Louis (Sue) Scherf, Sr. of Harriman, Tennessee; nieces and nephews, Paula Estey of Eugene, Richard Heins of Sacramento, California, Louis John Scherf, Jr., Dennis Scherf, and Gregory Scherf, Sr. all of Harriman, Pamela Ward of Libertyville, West Virginia, Terry Corbett of Auburn, Alabama, and Kelly Scherf of Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Natalie Ann Shelton, and nephews, Bruce Scherf and Thomas Heins.
