New Pastor (United Methodist - 1974)

The Rev. Melvin Nickel presented his farewell sermons Sunday, January 27, at the Granton and Neillsville Methodist churches.

Bishop Jesse R. DeWitt of the Wisconsin conference of the United Methodist Church has announced the appointment of the Rev. William Nobel to the Neillsville and Granton churches effective February 1 to succeed Rev. Nickel.

Rev and Mrs. Nickel and their son, Larry, were honored by the Granton congregation at an 8:45 a.m. breakfast preceding the worship service there and by the Neillsville congregation with a potluck dinner following the 10L45 a.m. service. Dale Larson served as master of ceremonies at the dinner and presented the Nickels with the gift of a planter.

Rev. Nickel, who served the two congregations for the past three years, and his wife, Betty, are now serving a group home for retarded adults in Marshfield.

Rev. Noble, a graduate of Cornell University and Drew Theological Seminary, has served the Franksville and Pleasant Prairie United Methodist churches in southeast Wisconsin since 1969. He served appointments in the New York and Pennsylvania conferences of the United Methodist Church.

He and his wife Cora, have three sons: William, Richard and Stephen.
