Mott, Murel Allen (8 August 1898 - 20 March 1974)

Funeral services were held Saturday morning from Calvary Lutheran Church for Murel Allen Mott of Rt. 3 Neillsville, who died March 20 at the age of 75. The Rev. Ronald J. Nordin officiated and burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery at Tomahawk. Arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

Murel Mott, the son of Almeron and Kate (Hotchkiss) Mott, was born August 8, 1898, at Moon and was educated in schools there and at Tripoli. He entered military service November 28, 1917, at Rhinelander, served on the troop transport USS Siboney during WWI, and was discharged October 15, 1919, at Great Lakes, Il.

His marriage to the former Alice Johnson took place July 25, 1924, at Ironwood, Mi. The couple moved to Milwaukee and lived there and in West Allis before coming to Neillsville in 1946. Mr. Mott was a driver for Advance-United Trucking prior to his 1963 retirement. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Wilson-Heinz Post No. 2241 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Milwaukee Local of the Teamsters Union.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four daughters: Mrs. Robert (Aline) Brown of Jacksonville, Fl., Mrs. Audrey Crandell and Mrs. Charles (Helen) Buechel of Milwaukee and Mrs. Joan Smith of Jacksonville, Fl.; four sisters: Mrs. Esther Jaeschke of Berrien, Mi., Mrs. Joseph (Flossie) Yon of floral City, Fl., Mrs. Dewey (Rena) Whitmore of Merrill and Mrs. Bernard (Clara) Gleisner of Floral City, Fl.; three brothers: Russell Mott of Salt lake City, Ut., Ray Mott of Crystal Lake, Il., and Hudson Mott of Tomahawk; and 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers in Neillsville were: Arlo Clausen, Kenneth Olson, Hilbert Naedler, George Church, Leo Pflughoeft and Clarence Hall.

Wilfred Galstad sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Softly and Tenderly”, accompanied by Miss Marilyn Galstad.

At the cemetery in Tomahawk, where the Rev. Ray Boyens officiated, pallbearers were Eugene Thiede, Ernest W. Krueger, Asten Asero, Martin Thompson, Asten Thompson and Hilmer Arneson.

Mr. Mott spent several years at Tomahawk following his discharge from the Navy.
