Kuehn, Elaine June (Potter) (5 JUN 1923 - 9 OCT 2015)

Elaine June (Potter) Kuehn, 92, of Owen, passed away on Oct. 9 at Clark County Rehabilitation & Living Center in Owen.

Elaine was born on June 5, 1923 in Owen, the only child of the late Marion and Agnes (Scheel) Potter.

She graduated from Owen High School in 1941. Elaine and Harold H. Kuehn were united in marriage on October 27, 1942 in Decorah, Iowa. Elaine’s first job was as a waitress at the Miru. Later, she went to work at the Master Package Corporation.

Elaine was a very active member of St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church in Owen, serving as a Sunday School teacher and participating in many activities and events there. She was a lifetime member of the Van Huizen-Fritz Post 123 American Legion Auxiliary. Elaine was also a charter member of the Owen-Withee Veteran’s Club.

Elaine enjoyed quilting, sewing, puzzles, reading, baking, playing cards, camping and travel. She spent many happy summer weekends camping with friends and family. Rock Dam County Park Campground was one of her favorite camp sites. Along with her husband Harold, Elaine enjoyed travelling across the United States and Canada. She also enjoyed getting together with friends for a good card game. She was an avid gardener and loved planting colorful flowers. Baking was another of her gifts and if you stopped to visit, you were sure to always have a sweet treat and a cup of coffee.

Elaine will be dearly missed by her daughters, Sue (Stasek) O’Connell of Green Bay and Ruthann Steager of Kenosha; son-in-law Arthur Steager of Racine; grandchildren, Mark (Sarah) Stasek of Eau Claire, Cynthia (Terry) Schlais of Sullivan, Martina Olson of Austin, Texas, Stephanee (Joseph) Sullivan and Brenna (David) Kone of Green Bay, and Molly (Daniel) Hixson of Antrim, N.H.; great-grandchildren, Steven, Paul and Emily Stasek, Alexander and Zachery Olson, Nicholas, Pauline and Jacob Schlais, Reilly, Rivers, and Reagan Sullivan, Gavin, Evan and Kaeleigh Kone, and Rio Calle; great-great grandson Hayden Stasek.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Harold; her parents, one grandson, Peter Steager, and two great-granddaughters, Morghan and Robyn Kone.

Funeral services to celebrate Elaine’s life will be on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen; 10 a.m. visitation, 11 a.m. service, with a luncheon at Nazareth Church Hall following the graveside service at Riverside Cemetery.
