Radtke, Gladys Monica (10 March 1923 - 17 November 2015)

Gladys Radtke, 92, of Neillsville died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Gladys Monica Obrzut was born March 10, 1923, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Edward and Katherine (Mikolajczyk) Obrzut. She graduated as valedictorian at both Edwards Grade School and Kelly High School in Chicago. She was united in marriage to Griffith Radtke May 20, 1943 at Mary Queen of Heaven Church in Cicero, IL. Gladys worked as a bookkeeper and tax preparer but mostly as a homemaker, raising her family of three. In 1981, they retired to Neillsville and resided on Owen Avenue.

In her leisure time, she enjoyed doing puzzles, reading, playing bingo and sewing, which included a king-sized quilt. She enjoyed traveling with Griffith in their Apache camper. They traveled all over Canada and the United States, from Prince Edward Island in the east to Lake Louise in the west.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville and was active in the church as an offertory counter and statement preparer.

Gladys will always be known as a selfless, happy, outgoing person, always willing to help another person with whatever they may need.

She is survived by three children: Nancy (John “Jay”) Vysoky of Neillsville, James Radtke of Naples, FL and Mark (Linda) Radtke of Western Springs, IL; seven grandchildren: Wendy (Tamara Dinkel) Vysoky, Christine (John) Riske, Lori (Tom) Maloney, Brian Radtke, Jason Radtke, Thomas Radtke and Alex Radtke; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Helen Lewis of Chicago, IL, and Wanda Rosenbaugh of Omaha, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Griffith; her parents; and five siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Gladys was held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Celebrant was Rev. Varkey V. Joseph. Music was provided by Vicente Cortez, organist and St. Mary’s choir. Interment was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Casketbearers were John Riske, Rom Maloney, Jay Vysoky, Mark Radtke, James Radtke and Thomas Radtke.
