Unity band robbed Friday

Mrs. Glen (Darlene) Herrmann, Colby, manager of the Unity branch of the Security State Bank, remains in serious condition at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield as the result of a bank robbery at the Unity branch at 1:15p.m., Friday.

Mrs. Herrmann received extensive injuries to the head inflicted by the bank robber.

Marathon County Sheriff, Louis Gianoli, stated she was hit twice with a sharp and blunt instrument, possible a heavy gun. The instrument was not found at the scene of the robbery.

Corwin Dallman, executive vice-president of the Security State Bank of Colby, stated about $1,500, the cash in the cash drawer, was taken during the robbery.

Sheriff Gianoli described the robber as being about 50 years old, five feet eight inches tall, with gray hair or a crewcut, wearing a blue-green jacket, and possibly wearing wire rim glasses.

The description of the “getaway” vehicle is not definite.

Because the Security State Bank is a Federal Reserve bank, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation, according to Sheriff Gianoli.

Several lead are being investigated by the FBI and the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Gianoli stated suspects have been questioned and released after their alibis checked out.

Mrs. Herman is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pfeffer of Unity.
