Pleasant Ridge (5 Dec 1918)
Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Huckstead received the sad news of the death of their son, Tom, last Friday, who had died of meningitis. Tom was born and grew to young manhood on the Ridge. He was a fine and noble young man, had no bad habits and was loved and cherished by all who knew him. He will be missed by all his friends as well as by his family. The Huckstead family has the sympathy of the entire community.
Miss Mary Slocomb has been quite sick the past week.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vine and family and Mr. and Mrs. George Vine and family spent Thanksgiving Day with Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Huckstead and family in Neillsville.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Darling are spending a few days with Mrs. Darling’s father, Wm. King.
Mrs. George Swann entertained a number of her friends at Thanksgiving dinner.
Mrs. George Vine entertained the Larkin Club at dinner Saturday.
Mr. Hills and son, Dale, and Mr. Salisbury went to Tripoli last Wednesday by auto on a hunting trip.
Miss Norma Wren is slowly recovering from an attack of the flu.
Ray Vine has been on the sick list the past week with yellow jaundice.
Grandma Selves is home again after spending a week with the Herb Brown family and other relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vine received a telegram from their son, Ernest, stating that he had landed in New Jersey in a hospital. It will be remembered that he had his hip broken in August, and is still wearing splints and unable to get around.
Mr. and Mrs. Benedict had a letter from their son, Marion, that he was seriously wounded. Marion used to be a Ridge boy.
