Dassow, Raymond “Ray” H. (5 JUL 1929 - 27 JUN 2010)

Raymond “Ray” H. Dassow, age: 80, of W1937 Willow Avenue Medford Town of Goodrich, died Sunday, June 27 at the Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center, Medford, where he had resided for the past 3 weeks.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 30 at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford, with Rev. James Krueger officiating. Interment will be at Medford Evergreen II Cemetery, Medford where full military honors will be performed by the Medford Military Honors Team.

Pallbearers are Preston Knippel, Brian Gallistel, Tim Ahlers, Bruce Albrecht, Russ and Duane Dassow.

Visitation will be held at 11:00 A.M. until the time of services at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 30 at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford.

Ray was born on July 5, 1929 at Whittlesey, WI, to William E. and Lena (Frischman) Dassow Sr.

He attended Washington Grade School, in the Town of Goodrich.

Ray was married on June 8, 1953 to Darlene A. Wilke at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford. She survives.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from January 23, 1952 through January 22, 1954, being stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. After his time in the Military Ray returned home and worked for Gottschalk of Edgar, Peterson of Medford and Keyes of Milwaukee for a number of years. He then owned and operated his own Bulldozing business for a number of years. They also owned and operated a small dairy farm in the Town of Goodrich for a number of years and then owned and operated a small dairy farm in the Town of Holway for 7 years until his retirement in 1992. Ray enjoyed fishing, music, playing the concertina and accordion, reading history books, snowmobiling, playing and watching baseball.

Ray was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford, and past member of the American Legion Post #4, Athens.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene A. Dassow of Medford; children, Debra (James) Knippel of Medford, Raymond (Kathy) Dassow of Colby, Roger Dassow and Penny Dassow both of Medford; grandchildren, Sadie (Tim) Ahlers of Medford, Gene Gallistel (special friend Bethany Dick) of Milwaukee, Preston Knippel (special friend Mersadies Vaughn) and Emerson Knippel of Medford; great grandchildren, Harlie and Brier Ahlers both of Medford; and sister, Leona (Loren) Albrecht of Medford.

Ray is predeceased by his parents, William E. and Lena (Frischman) Dassow Sr.; siblings, Elsie Loeffler, Bert Diels, Amanda Steen, Gertrude Weiler, Hildagard Jari; William, Ervin, Herbert, Ernest, Gerald and Lester Dassow; Martha in infancy and brother Frank in infancy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Ray’s family to be designated at a later date.
