Hetrey, Margaret E. (Matis) Terryberry (28 OCT 1916 - 28 JAN 2010)

Margaret E. Terryberry-Hetrey, age 95, of 135 S. Gibson Street Medford, passed away on Friday, November 12 at the Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center, Medford where she had resided for the past 2 ½ years.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 18, at the First Baptist Church, Medford, with Pastor Brian Wipf officiating, Interment will be at Medford Evergreen II Cemetery, Medford.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dan and Scott Matis and Bob Rettie, active pallbearers will be Mike Jr. and Kurt Guziak, Eric Landry, Matt Harris, Vern Long, and Michael Terryberry.

Visitation will be at 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 17 at the Hemer Funeral Home, Medford and also from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 18 at the First Baptist Church, Medford.

Margaret was born on July 17, 1915 at Chicago, IL, to Michael and Mary (Solyon) Matis.

She is a graduate of Austin High School in Chicago, IL in 1931, and attended Beauty Culture School in Chicago, IL, where she received her certificate as a Registered Beauty Culturist.

Margaret was first married on May 14, 1937, at Crown Point, Indiana to George Terryberry. He preceded her in death on September 1, 1978. Her second marriage was to Michael Hetrey, and they later divorced.

After school Margaret owned and operated 4 beauty salons in the Chicago Area until 1944. They then moved to Galveston, Texas where she sold hats and later worked for Starr Dairy in payroll until 1947. Margaret and George then purchased a small dairy farm in the Town of Greenwood, Rib Lake until 1978. Also during this time Margaret worked as a CNA at the Memorial Hospital of Taylor County for 9 years. She was a cook and baker at Miracle Mile Diner for a year and was also a housekeeper and cook for the Holy Rosary Rectory, Medford for several years. Margaret enjoyed cooking, singing and playing the piano, spending time with her family, reading and writing poetry. She also enjoyed bowling. Margaret loved serving and working and never forgot any kindness given to her.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Medford, Order of the Eastern Star Medford Chapter #254, past 4-H Leader and Margaret was a volunteer at the Riverview Apartments for food service.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Margie (Michael Jr.) Guziak of Medford; daughter-in-law: MaryAnn Terryberry of Rockford, IL; sister-in-law, Dorothy Matis of Orland Park, IL; grandchildren, Debra (Eric) Landry of Hawthorn Woods, IL, Kurt (Jackie) Guziak of Newnan, Georgia, Marla (Matt) Harris of Wausau, Michael (Evelyn) Terryberry and Michele (Vern) Long both of Rockford, IL; 5 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives ad many friends.

She is predeceased by her parents, Michael and Mary (Solyon) Matis; children, Michael Terryberry in infancy in 1944 and Douglas on March 26, 2000; siblings, Joseph, Michael, Ethel Rettie; special friend, Melvin Gauerke.
