Dommer, Arvin Louis (11 JUN 1924 – 20 MAR 2016)

Arvin Louis Dommer, age 91, of Abbotsford, passed away on Palm Sunday, March 20, 2016 in his home with the comfort of family by his side. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 26 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, with Rev. Mark Neumann officiating. Family and friends are welcome for visitation from 11:00 AM until time of service Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at the Colby Cemetery. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

Arvin was born on June 11, 1924, the son of Carl and Dorothea (Hahn) Dommer in Hanks, North Dakota. He returned with his family back to the Clark and Marathon county area in 1929 moving between several locations before the family established their farm east of Colby. He attended school at Colby High, and graduated in 1942. Arvin and his brothers farmed together raising registered Holsteins for several decades under the name Arlendel Farms.

Arvin was united in marriage to Elsie Weis at the Zion Lutheran Church in Colby after a 5 month courtship The wedding occurred on May 20, 1961 so as to not interfere with spring planting or 1st cutting of hay. Eleven months later the 1st of 6 children were born: Shirley, Lorraine, Duane, Carl, Sharon, and Diane. Arvin enjoyed taking car trips with the family every few years to visit relatives in Georgia, Texas, and North Dakota. Arvin continued to farm with his children until health issues limited his ability to drive tractors and work in the barn.

Arvin was a long-term member of Zion Lutheran Church receiving confirmation in 1938 and then later participating in church functions for many years. After retirement from farming, he and Elsie moved to Abbotsford for the last 5 years.

Arvin is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elsie; six children, Shirley (Jim) Walczak of Milwaukee, Lorraine (Francis) Wagner of Abbotsford, Duane (Fiancé Zane Renner) of Cedarburg, Carl of Colby, Sharon (Randy) Jagodzinski of Wausau, and Diane (John) Martin, DVM of Cedar Grove; six grandchildren; Rachel Wagner, Kristin Wagner, Elizabeth Wagner, Andrew Jagodzinski, Allison Jagodzinski, and Jacob Jagodzinski; and three step-grandchildren; Andrew, Kathleen, and Tim Walzcak. He is further survived by a brother Delphin and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Leona (Dommer) Fechhelm and brother Leonhard.
