Mavis, Dorothy Ella (6 FEB 1932 – 27 MAR 2016)
Dorothy E. Mavis, 84, Greenwood, passed away at House of the Dove in Marshfield, on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016. A celebration of life will be held at Parkway Pines in Greenwood, on Saturday, April 2, from noon until 3:30 p.m.

Dorothy Ella Murphy was born on Feb. 6, 1932, in Harvard, Ill., the daughter of Cornelius “Neil” and Agnes (nee Sinding) Murphy. She was raised and received her education in Marengo, Ill., graduating from Marengo High School in 1949. After completing her education, Dorothy worked at Woodstock Title Company until her marriage to Earl R. Mavis on Nov. 8, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marengo. While living in Marengo, playing pinochle with the neighborhood card club and square dancing were a couple of her favorite pastimes. They farmed in Marengo until 1978, at which time they moved to Greenwood, where they farmed until retiring in 1998. They sold the farm and moved into the city of Greenwood.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Earl, of Greenwood; five children: Kathy (Jim) Mechler of Belvidere, Ill., Deb (Jim) Barr of Willard, Bob (Kelly) Mavis of Brookfield, Ill., Deanna (Greg) Heiman of Neillsville, and Dave (Anne) Mavis of Greenwood; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Kearney of Marengo; one brother, Cornelius “Jim” Murphy Jr. of Harvard, Ill.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Michelle Montgomery; and one sister, Agnes Cleary.

Dorothy’s family would like to thank all of the staff at the House of the Dove in Marshfield for their unconditional compassion and care they gave to her during her stay there.
