Manthe, Valerious (8 MAY 1918 – 23 OCT 1970)

Valerious Manthe of Route 1, Spencer, was pronounced dead of an apparent heart attack on arrival at St. Joseph’s Hospital Friday afternoon.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at St. John’s Lutheran Church, North Spencer. Pallbearers were Arnold Seefeldt, Arvin Podevels, Lavern Hein, Ray Lawrence, Herman Klein, and Ray Gripentrog. The congregation sang “Abide with Me” and “Asleep in Jesus,” accompanied by Mrs. Emil Luepke. Rev. David Ault officiated, and the burial was made in the church cemetery.

Valerious Manthe was born May 8, 1918 and was married September 10, 1941 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, to Hazel Vanderhoof. Since his marriage he had lived on a farm near Spencer until his retirement in May of this year. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Kelly (Cecelia) Decorah, Loyal; Miss Judy Manthe, at home; three sons, Ronald, Spencer; Jerry and Charles, at home; and six grandchildren. His brother, Leroy Manthe, lives in Homosassa, Florida, and his mother, Mrs. Austin Hancock, lives in Marshfield.
