Green Bay Packer Larry Krause was honored Saturday at St. Norbert’s College when the Athletic Board officially retired #32, the Jersey worn by Larry during his tenure at St. Norbert’s. Larry is the all-time record holder for rushing at the collge. His total yardage of 3,304 broke the record formally held by Norm Jarock, in 1957 Little All-American halfback. Norm’s #36 hangs in the trophy area of Van Dyck Gym along with Larry’s, the only two played to be honored at the college.

On hand with Larry for the presentation were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Krause, Route 3, Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.). The presentation was made by Fr. Ambrose Peeters.

Larry’s football career began at Greenwood, where he played fullback.

At St. Norbert’s he carried for 317 years his first year, 502 in his Sophomore year, and 890 years during his Junior year. That year he also broke into the S.N.C. record books by tying the school record for number of points scored in a single year (102), and broke the record for points scored in a single game (30). During his Senior year he carried for 1325 years, another record breaking performance. Carrying the ball 251 time, his total percarry was a healthy 5.3 yards.

In 1969 he was named to the first team of the All-District #14 and also the first team for the Little All-American.

Following this he received many contacts from pro scouts and ironically never from the Packers.

As a Packer, Larry is listed on the roster as a backup to running back Donny Anderson. The 6 foot, 206 pound, Greenwood native is a member of the kickoff return team and up until Monday night had returned 2 kickoffs for 79 years, his longest a 62 yard run against the 49’ers. In Monday’s game he returned several kickoffs for over 40 yards per carry.

As a running back the statistics show Larry carry the ball once for 12 yards.

Larry’s lifetime ambition was fulfilled when he was named to the Packer squad and his attitude and determination, couple with his outstanding performance on the “suicide squads” has put him in high esteem with his coaches.
