Cardinal, Gilbert O. (30 DEC 1932 - 15 MAR 2016)

Gilbert O. Cardinal, 83, of Withee, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital in Weston.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors provided by Lublin American Legion Post #547, Owen American Legion Post #123, Owen-Withee Vets Club and Thorp VFW Post #9057 will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 26 at Riverside Cemetery in the Town of Hixon.

A celebration of Gilbert's life will be held following the service from 1:00 - 4:00 PM at the Thirsty Squirrel in Owen. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen is entrusted with the arrangements.

Gilbert was born December 30, 1932, the son of John and Gertrude (Baumgarten) Cardinal in the Town of Grover. He was united in marriage to Janet M. Wood on September 20, 1958 at Nazareth Lutheran Parsonage. Gilbert was a Korean War Veteran, stationed in Germany. He worked for the Village of Withee Public Works Department for 33 years.

Gilbert enjoyed hunting, fishing, recycling various parts and reading westerns. He was a charter member and long-time Financial Officer of Lublin American Legion Post #547, a member of the Owen-Withee Vets Club and the Thorp VFW Post #9057.

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Janet, Withee; two daughters: Cindy Cardinal and Kathy Cardinal (Jim Barrett) both of Withee; three grandchildren: Timothy Day, Gilman, Angela (Brian) Welsh, Gilman and James (Carlie) Cardinal, Ripon; three great-grandchildren: Logan, Maya and Naomi Welsh. He is further survived by one brother and three sisters: Alvina Judycki, Missouri, Lyle (Linda) Cardinal, Missouri, Elaine Oldham, Florida and Florence (Dennis) Fischer, Wausau, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters: Lester, Audrey, Lawrence, Helen and Ronald.

The family would like to send a special thanks out to the girls on 1W at the Clark County rehabilitation and Living Center. They became his 2nd family with the excellent care they gave him over the last few months.
