Lewis, Norbert A. (22 JAN 1943 – 20 APR 2016)

Norbert A. "Al” "Allen” "Louie” Lewis, 73, Loyal, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, in the town of Loyal. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, April 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. Rev. Daniel Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church, on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Norbert Allen Lewis was born on Jan. 22, 1943, in Marshfield, the son of Betty Marie Lewis. He was raised in Loyal by his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Elva Lewis, and received his education in area schools, graduating from Loyal High School in 1961. After high school, Al worked for a short time at Borden Foods in Loyal, before being drafted into the U.S. Army on July 9, 1964. He served his country until his honorable discharge on June 17, 1966. He returned to Wisconsin and worked in Milwaukee in construction. Al married Pondri E. Smitke on May 25, 1968, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield. They lived in Milwaukee until moving to Loyal in 1973. Al went to work for the Clark County Highway Department until retiring in 2002. After retiring, Al enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, making wine, smoking fish and helping his daughters whether they needed it or not.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Pondri, of Loyal; two daughters: Kelly Hainz and Kim (Darin) Bogdonovich, both of Loyal; three grandsons: Cody and Dustin Garlach, and Bo Bogdonovich; one aunt, Clara Lewis; and two cousins: Lois (Thomas) Ziegler-O'Donnell and Dr. Loretta (Edward) Grobe.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Elva Lewis; his mother, Betty M. Lewis; his son-in-law, Steve Hainz; and his uncle, Leslie Lewis.
