Edward W. ‘Zaba’ Trunkel, of Willard passed away peacefully at the Clark County Rehab & Living Center in Owen, Saturday, April 30, 2016, at the age of 98.

Edward William Trunkel was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Willard to Anton and Anna (Stalzer) Trunkel, originally settlers of Willard. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at the Willard State Graded School and Greenwood High School. As a young man, Ed worked in the harvest fields out west before being inducted into the U. S. Army May 17, 1945. He served his country until his honorable discharge Sept. 17, 1946.

Ed was united in marriage March 7, 1945, to Darlene Severson at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Greenwood. He and his wife farmed and raised their family in Willard, and he also spent many years hauling milk, the heavy cans. They later moved to Greenwood where he worked at Greenwood Homes until retiring.

Ed was a proud 60-year member of the Greenwood American Legion. He was a fisherman, hunter and avid baseball player and fan. In his later years, Ed enjoyed a dail6y drive, but had to get home in time to watch his favorite team, the Braves.

He is survived by his two sons: Dennis (Judith) of Milwaukee and DuWayne “Butch” (Sheryl) of Willard; one daugher, Janice (Jerry) Ackley of Sheridan, WY; seven grandchildren: Tammy (Dan) Susa, Denyse Trunkel, Darcie Trunkel, Lori (Ryan) Luder, Jillian (Matthew) Trepczyk, Kurt (Kristi) Trunkel and Justin (Jessica) Ackley; eight great-grandchildren: Cole and Jesse Susa, Garrett and Gauge Ackley, Ryan and Riley Trepczyk and Maya and Jaxson Trunkel; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlene, Oct. 5, 1977; one daughter, Donna Trunkel; two brothers, John and Tony; and one sister, Ann Snedic.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016 at our Saviors Lutheran Church in Greenwood, with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Rev. Brian Campbell will officiate and burial will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Cole Susa, Kurt Trunkel, Jillian Trepczyk, Jerry Ackley, Bill Snedic and Jerry Lamovec.
