Ingvald Hembre, son of Mr. and Mrs. Iver Hembre, was born on a farm 4 miles northeast of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), on August 13, 1900. He attended the Christopherson rural school, and graduated from the Greenwood High School in 1918.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1925 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Agriculture Education. In 1950 he received a Master's Degree in Education.
He was Principal and Vocational Agriculture Instructor in Hawkins, Wis. from 1925 through 1929. In 1929 he introduced a Vocational Agriculture Department in Rice Lake High School. After 1 1/2 years at Rice Lake, when was called back to Rusk County in the capacity of Supt. Of the Consolidated Schools at Tony, Wis., where he remained for 4 years. He then introduced the Vocational Agriculture Department at the Cumberland High School.
He was a ten year key for teaching Vocational Agriculture and has a State Farmer Degree in the Future Farmers of America.
In 1935 he became County Agricultural Agent for Barron County, serving there until December 1947, when he received an appointment to the Staff of the University of Wisconsin. At present he is an Associate Professor of Soils and the Executive Secretary of the Wisconsin Soil and Water Conservation Committee. In 1947 he received a Distinguished Service Award from National County Agents Association.
In 1929 he married Margit Fond of Hawkins. They are the parents of 3 sons and 1 daughter, and have 6 grandchildren.
Ingvald has always been active in Community, Church, Masonic Lodge, and Civic work. He is a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, a past member of the Church Council, Supt. Of Sunday School, an adult teacher in the Bethel Bible Series and active in the Brotherhood.
He is a member of the Masonic Fraternity, a Past Grand Master of Masons in Wisconsin and a honored 33rd Degree Mason.
He has been very active in Kiwanis work, including past president of a Kiwanis Club, past Lieut. Governor of Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Northwest Division, and past Chairman of the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Committee on Agriculture and Conservation.
He is a member of National Soil Science Society of America, the Soil Conservation Society of America, the Izaak Walton League, the Wisconsin Council of Conservation Education, the Conservation Association of America, the Education Sub-Committee of the National Resources Committee of State Agencies, and the Wisconsin Conservation Education Curriculum Committee, and a member of the Council of Trees-for Tomorrow Inc., Merrill.
