Lindgren, Bernard A. (11 NOV 1933 – 24 JUL 2016)

Bernard A. “Bernie” Lindgren, 82, Loyal, passed away peacefully at the House of the Dove in Marshfield on Sunday July 24, 2016. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, July 30, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal. Rev. Steve Brice and Rev. Msgr. Dennis Wassmuth will officiate. The family will receive condolences from 9 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at St. Anthony Cemetery immediately following the service with military honors and then a luncheon will be served in the church basement.

Bernard Arvid Lindgren was born on Nov. 11, 1933, in Greenwood, to Vaner H. and Anna W. (nee Stabnow) Lindgren. He attended Beehive Grade School and graduated from Owen High School in 1952. In June 1955, he enlisted into the United States Air Force. He completed basic training and military police training at Parks Air Force Base in California. He was then transferred to Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Wash., where he met Edna Wassmuth. They were married on Jan. 12, 1957, in Greencreek, Idaho. He did a tour of duty in Guam before he was honorably discharged in 1959. Upon completion of his time with the service, he moved his family back to Wisconsin where he purchased a farm south of Loyal and raised his family. Bernie farmed until he started his own construction business in 1972. He retired in 1993 and remained on the farm until this past Wednesday, when he entered the House of the Dove where he lost his battle with lung cancer. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Alcoholics Anonymous (he celebrated 44 years of sobriety), and the Loyal American Legion Post 175. He enjoyed reading and watching westerns, playing cards, watching the birds and caring for his dachshunds, but he mostly enjoyed spending time with family.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Edna, of 59 years; his children: Dan (Gail) Lindgren, Jim (Jill) Lindgren, Mike (Michelle) Lindgren, Pat (Lisa) Lindgren, Dave (Michele) Lindgren, John (Nancy) Lindgren, Mary (John) Erpenbach, and Joe (Michele) Lindgren; 27 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; his brother, Peter (Linda) Lindgren; his sisters: Gwen (Tom) Bessnet, Karen (Don) Lampi, and Cala Frey; and his sisters-in-law: Kathy and Lola Lindgren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Thomas, Jerry and Ron; his brother-in-law, Ken Frey; and grandchildren Eric and Jayme.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the House of Dove, 1100 W 11th St., Marshfield, WI. 54449
