Lund, Hans Peter "Julius" #1 (25 MAR 1868 – 10 MAY 1935)

Hans Peter Julius Lund died at Victory Hospital Friday, May 10th. Mr. Lund was born in Assens, Fyn Denmark, on March 25, 1868. There he learned the trade as a shoemaker. He served in the Danish army at Copenhagen, Denmark, for a year and a half.

In 1891 he sailed for America. On May 30, 1891, he was married to Mary Dorothea Sorensen from Lundager, Fyn, Denmark, who came across on the same boat.

In 1903 he moved to a farm three and one-half miles northeast of Stanley, where he made his home until ten years ago, when he purchased a home in Stanley. He resided there for five years. He then moved back to the farm where he remained till his death. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, and eight children: Mrs. J. A. Gregory of Goldfield, Nevada; Mrs. H. Sloan, Carl and Albert of Neenah; Mrs. Christ Horgen, Mrs. Roy Brothen of Stanley; Ed and Rudolph Lund of the Stanley Country. Also two sisters, Mrs. Anton Dietz of Skow, Minn., Mrs. Danielson and one brother Wilhelm Lund of Nyborg, Denmark; thirty-one grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The funeral services were held at his home and from Our Savior's Lutheran Church Tuesday, May 14., Rev. J. N. Midtlien officiating. He was buried at Synode Cemetery, east of the City.

Honorary pall bearers were: Solon Larson, Axel Anderson, Pete Rasmussen, Charles Mortensen, Robert Mortensen and John Gruber. Regular pall bearers were: Gus Kolstad, Oscar Isenberger, Alfred Nerdrum, Fred Sorensen, Will Sorensen and Warren Baker.

The out-of-town people who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Anton Dietz of Aslcov, Minn., J. Sorensen of Waupaca and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lund, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lund, Mary Jane and Dennis Sloan of Neenah.

Source: The above article was retyped exactly as published in the Stanley Republican Newspaper, May, 1935. All honorary pall bearers were pioneers and settlers in the Eidsvold community. John Gruber worked with Julius on the railroad. Honorary pall bearers went to dances with Julius and Mary when they were young. His regular pall bearers were his neighbors.
