Heise, Edith M. (Draeger) (2 DEC 1936 - 11 OCT 2011)

Edith M. Heise, 74, Wausau died Tuesday, October 11, 2011 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at her home.

She was born December 2, 1936 in the town of Hamburg, daughter of the late Adolph and Alice (Klapel) Draeger. On June 9, 1956 she married Edward Heise at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Edgar. He survives.

Edith worked for Steffke Freight Co., was an owner/operator of Heise's Highway Café for many years, worked in the school lunch program in Mauston, was a quality control specialist for Advance Transformer Co. in Platteville and also a dietary aide for the Shawano Hospital prior to her retirement.

Edith enjoyed China, tole and canvas painting as well as sewing, embroidering and quilting. The baking and decorating of wedding cakes was one of her activities that she enjoyed and excelled at. She also served as church organist for many years at the various congregations that she was a member of. After her retirement she and her husband Ed lived for two years in their motor home traveling throughout the United States.

Survivors include her husband Edward Heise, Wausau, her three children, Suzanne (Frank) Davis, Albany, Oregon, Eileen (Randy) Loew, Wausau and Evan (Anne) Heise, West Salem, four grandchildren, Stephanie and Neal Davis and Nathan and Becky Loew, three step grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and one sister, Elaine (David) Lewitzke, Wausau.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a step great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, 1351 S. Grand Ave., Schofield. The Rev. Walter Davidson will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, town of Rib Falls. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

The family would like to thank the caregivers that helped take care of and comfort her during her illness.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Edith's name.
